For Sale Boards - agency runs competition to spot worst offenders

An estate agency is running a competition to encourage residents to photograph badly-located For Sale and To Let boards.

The Basingstoke branch of Martin & Co has told the local media that some boards are “not where they should be” - an admission that comes after a local resident went on the record as saying the boards are “ugly, unnecessary and an eyesore.”

Andrew Sheldon, a spokesperson from Martin & Co Basingstoke, told the Basingstoke Gazette: “The competition is meant to be a bit of fun because we could see residents have become increasingly frustrated and annoyed at the number of these boards placed where they do not even relate to the properties that are for sale.

“It is not only against the highways code but it also looks terrible having all these boards where they should not be.”

Sheldon says many blocks of flats have multiple boards outside them for months or even years which is “not nice for anyone to see.

Martin & Co Basingstoke are asking residents to send in photos of the boards they find in the wrong place and tag Martin & Co Basingstoke on Facebook or Instagram.

The winner will be announced on Valentines Day and will be given a £100 Amazon voucher.

Boards have nothing to do with the highway code and everything to do with the planning code.

And guess which agent has the reputation for offending thus in Basingstoke!

The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements)(England) Regulations 2007 apply, not 'the highways code' (sic).
