Agency board supplier reveals proptech-inspired future for its sale signs

Agency board supplier Kremer Signs is working on geotagging tools that can be incorporated into For Sale signs.

Tom Cummuskey, sales and marketing manager for Kremer Signs, has revealed how the brand is make agency boards fit for the future, including eco-friendly and proptech-inspired signs.

Speaking to Lee Dahill in an exclusive Estate Agent Today interview, Cummuskey revealed how the brand’s boards are becoming more tech-friendly.

A QR code can already be added to the board so a passer-by can scan it for more information about a property.

But Cummuskey added that the Kremer Signs research and development team is now working on added geotagging to the QR code.

He said: “This is where the QR code is added to the board and instead of lots of different qr codes, if the user has location enable on their phone, it will show other properties available from the agent within the area.”

Cummuskey said the pandemic has made people more comfortable with QR codes and smart boards, adding: “We launched smart boards 10 years but they didn’t take off as people didn’t know how to use a QR code or hadn’t downloaded an app.

“Now it is readily available.”

He added that eco boards are becoming more popular.

Kremer Sign’s eco boards are made from recyclable sheets and it provides a free scrappage and recycling scheme.

Cummuskey said: “We are being reminded time and time again about the importance of reducing our carbon footprint.

“For signage and our industry as a whole, the For Sale board can come under scrutiny about if it has a place in the market.

“We saw it as our responsibility to ensure it has a future by making sure it is carbon friendly.”

Quick Response matrix bar codes have been around three-decades so hardly new tech, must be a slow news day.

With the explosion of IoT, maybe Kremer should be looking at Beacon technology, this would enable passers-by of for sale and sold boards to geo-targeted and contextually relevant messaging from agents, who are within range. All of this communications coming rthrough a smartphone, which these days is welded to every human on the planet unfortunately.

It seems it will only be a hop and a skip and the tech will be embedded in our heads - did anyone see the recent article suggestiong 'smart' chips for solicitors to heighten their ability to do complex work at a heightened level? Not April fool, see Conveyancing press and even The Times ran it yesterday.

And still most in the real estate industry think - 'business as usual' - I think most are in for a rude awakening as the 7-billion on the planet under the age of 38 years of age - push for nano-second service.

On a personal level I am still waiting over a week for two different agents to 'get back to me' regarding intel on if extra SDLT is applicable on a posssible annexe situation, and another agent to come back and confirm if we can get access for a survey pre-auction, both of these agents I think may be candidates for the 'smart/quick' chip in their heads ... or maybe are just in the wrong profession, after all being in a service industry is not for everyone.

Or maybe we will get to the point where there is a digital logbook online of every property asset that is for sale or lease, and buyers or renters can just do 'property' without the indifferent blockers who are failing their clients who want to sell and lease. To be clear many agents are extremely good, and equally many are not. Which in a world of multi-communication is a nonsense, everyone is digitally plugged into everyone 24-7, so why the big disconnect.

And Tom at Kremer Signs, we do consultancy for all types of companies looking to digitally transform their operations, more than happy to get on a call to give you some input, just book in a call, in a previous life you were a supplier to all of our branches and we know how good your boards are.

Thank you for the message Andrew :)

Whilst QR codes, as you rightfully mentioned, have been used for many years, we are offering something more than just a generic QR Code.

What Smartboard brings to the Estate Agency market, is an online platform to manage your Smartboards which are dynamic QR codes, where they can be reassigned to a different priorities URL address once the existing property has Sold or Let. Prior to Smartboard agents were using 1 static QR code which leads the end user to their website, with no analytics or alternative URL capabilities. Smartboard gives the agent to ability to send an interest party to the specific properties details, and then gives the agent the ability to reassign the QR code after use.

The Smartboard platform also produces analytics of how many scans each board has had, where they are located, how many resulted in a lead or a valuation request and the ability to send push notifications to the users phone that scanned your Smartboard.

We have a Kremer Signs Smartboard installer app which allows either the agent or the boardman to simply scan the Smartboard once erected at a property, fill in the address details and then the boards QR Code will be automatically assigned to that properties URL on their website, pulling the information from the agents website, making it incredibly easy for Estate Agents to manage.

As I mentioned before, this gives agents the ability to reassign the QR Codes, whereas before they would have been limited to a static QR code, or if they wanted property specifics, they would have had to print a QR on their boards which would lead to that properties URL, but after the property is Sold, they wouldn't be able to reuse that board and would be made redundant, which can be very costly.

I totally agree with the beacon technology being the future, and is something that we are heavily researching at the moment with our tech partners to see how this can be integrated, managed and installed with each For Sale board.

Thank you, I will be in touch for sure :)
