An independent agency brand has become the latest firm to sign a listings agreement with CoStar-backed OnTheMarket.
Edward Mellor, one of the UK's largest independent property services firms in the North of England, has signed a listings agreement with the portal.
Headquartered in Stockport, the 15-branch estate agency network operates throughout Tameside, Stockport, Cheshire, and Greater Manchester, offering fully integrated financial services, planning, conveyancing, and surveying businesses, as well as property management, development and auction divisions.
Edward Mellor has followed Leaders Romans Group (LRG) by selecting OnTheMarket as one of just two major platforms it will be listing properties with going forward.
The other is believed to be Rightmove, although it is understood that the agent already left Zoopla 12 months ago.
Jason Tebb, president of OnTheMarket, said: “I’m delighted Edward Mellor has chosen to commit to OnTheMarket as part of its two-portal strategy. The addition of such a strong regional brand further strengthens our presence in the North West as we continue our push for growth across the country.
“It’s an incredibly exciting time for our agents, with the acquisition by CoStar Group accelerating our target of becoming the market leader, bringing industry-leading global expertise and significant financial firepower to help deliver even more value for all our customers.”
Colin Mellor, chief executive of Edward Mellor, added: “For us it is now clear that with CoStar’s substantial financial reserves their recent acquisition creates the opportunity for a paradigm shift in the marketing of properties, both for consumers and agents alike. We envisage the OnTheMarket Brand now becoming a major influencer in the portal market and we look forward to seeing how our relationship develops.”

Speaking as an independent agent, I too have made the switch. Zoopla have had enough time to disrupt and it's about time Rightmove is taken on properly!
Totally agree but Agents should be dropping RM first, I did.
I like the OTM website but all I can say is don't be in a hurry to get a service response. I left a message weeks ago on the local reps mobile regarding a query......to date NOTHING ! I raised a support ticket on the 28th Jan 2024 (regarding the same query)......its now the 7th Feb......NOTHING ! Oh dear oh dear :(
There is no way that OTM is ever going to do any damage whatsoever to rightmove. During Covid there was opportunity for agents to stick together to scrap rightmove and it was a shambles. I personally think rightmove is a necessary evil, pay for it and get on with selling houses. Talking about getting rid of rightmove is simply a waste of energy!
About to have a Teams meeting with the RM rep at 11.00am. They have written already to say my basic rate of £1185.00 sales only is going up by 12.2% in April. I will take it on the chin, and the extras I receive for EPC's, solicitors fees, survey fees, mortgage fees and a slight increase in our fees will not affect our business. Coming off RM would do, I have seen it locally with another agent who has. I dropped advertising in papers 2007, stopped printing brochures in racks on the walls which collected dust years ago. Cuts to save costs are there if you can. C'est la vie.
