An estate agency has announced the winner of its best British garden competition.
Fine and Country carried out the competition and its global network of 300 offices invited people to vote for their favourite garden via its Facebook page.
The gardens with the most votes from each region were then shortlisted and sent to gardening expert and Mail on Sunday columnist Martyn Cox to pick a winner.
Cox picked a garden in Birmingham as the overall winner. The garden is owned by a Mr and Mrs Green, who were awarded a pair of tickets to next year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show as well as the accolade of owning 'Britain's best garden'.
“I was very impressed by the high standard of entries in this year’s Fine and Country Garden Competition, which made picking an overall winner very difficult. There were large country gardens and smaller city plots, flower filled space and striking architectural gems. All had their attributes and were obviously cherished by their owners,” says Cox.
“However, the plot created by Richard and Judi Green in Birmingham, stood out to me. Their average sized, suburban plot is well stocked with choice plants that have been selected carefully to provide colour and interest all year round – there are winter and spring flowering bulbs, summer perennials and plants to provide a splash of autumn colour. All have been weaved together skilfully to ensure a constantly changing display that delights all of the senses.”
David Lindley from Fine & Country Head Office, Park Lane adds: “We see so many beautiful gardens in our profession, we wanted to celebrate them, regardless of whether the properties were for sale or not. Mr & Mrs Green’s entry is charming and traditional and a worthy winner of the competition. We would like to thank all those who took part this year by either entering their garden or voting for their favourite entry, and to Martyn for his expert opinion.”
Here is the garden, what do you think?

Nice!
Hmm, not sure that garden is worthy of the top prize. It's very nice and all but there is certainly nothing stand-out about it. I was expecting more, somehow. Something a bit more impressive!
