Rightmove says it enjoyed record traffic over key Christmas and New Year days for both sales and lettings.
Page views on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day were up 22 per cent on 2014. On Boxing Day there were almost 31 million page views on the site, rising to 44 million on December 30.
More specific figures are not being released until later this month - Estate Agent Today understands they will appear with the Rightmove monthly asking price index released on January 18.
But just over a year ago, on January 1 2015, the portal enjoyed 3.2m unique visits spawning a much larger number of page views. Some of the most recent Christmas/New Year visiting figures are believed to exceed that.
On Boxing Day Rightmove launched its latest TV advertising campaign, still based on the portal’s ‘Happy’ theme but centred on “the emotional connection we feel when we find the right property” according to a statement.
“This consistency in TV advertising has helped to make Rightmove the brand that vendors insist on, with 85 per cent of sellers surveyed by the Property Academy in the Home Moving Trends Survey 2015 saying that Rightmove is the most important property website where they expect to see their property marketed” says the portal.
Zoopla launched its biggest ever national marketing campaign - called Knowing More and including national TV adverts - on Boxing Day as well.

All thanks to OTM? :)
Noting RM's comments about tv advertising: watching Location Location Location last night I noticed Zoopla's awful tv ad as well as ads for Purplebricks and easyProperty. The house price data used on LLL is also Zoopla's. Now I know 'Pip' Spencer is Zoopla's brand ambassador so it is unlikely OTM could get a look in there. But the point I'm making is where is OTM's advert during this show? (It may have been on - I may just have missed it). But if it wasn't, why not?
This is wonderful news for the online portals, and good news that purchasers are very interested in buying this new year. It also shows the correlation between advertising at its best! I'm happy to say that we, at Face for Business, have experienced about a 20% surge in our incoming calls for Estate Agents this week, and a percentage of these calls came in via Rightmove!
This is great news for RM, surely every estate agent would rather have more visitors to their own websites though wouldn't they?
We are without doubt the simplest tool in the box, and the only property based tool that directs ALL traffic to the agents own website.
