Estate agency rapped over claim that it's "the leading agent in..."

A Cheshire estate agency has had to amend its website following a complaint to the advertising watchdog over its claim to be a leading agent in one area.

VitalSpace claimed on its website that it was “the leading Lymm Estate Agents."

However, a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority argued that this claim was misleading and could not be substantiated as VitalSpace at that time did not actually sell any properties in the Lymm area.

“We contacted the advertiser who agreed to remove the claim. Following this assurance from the advertiser, we considered the case resolved on an informal basis” says a spokeswoman for the Advertising Standards Authority.

Another 'informal basis' resolution. It may be appropriate in this case but the phrase is now as much an ASA cliche as a bad joke.

Is there any point in them publicising informally resolved cases anymore? I can't see the benefit. They may as well just publicise the 'upheld' cases which occur every couple of months and still don't really mean anything!
